The PSG Academy Wales partner with the University of South Wales

December 8, 2022

The Paris Saint-Germain Academy UK is striving to build partnerships across Wales, focusing on the player pathway, to support and guide students through each stage of their academic journey.

One of the most recent aims was to partner with the University of South Wales with the intention to support students from secondary schools and colleges to gain a clearer idea of academic courses, campus life, student life and much more. There is scope for students to attend lectures/seminars, open days and to meet with like minded university students to experience a taste of what their next academic step could be.

The partnership is offering University Students the opportunity to gain experience coaching and teaching a range of players attending our sessions, including our player development programmes, holiday camps and the BTEC course at St Martin’s Comprehensive school.

We currently have four University of South Wales students assisting and delivering sessions across the South of Wales to players at our partnering schools:

Lowri

Course: BSc Sport and Exercise Science, and is now working towards her PGCE (post 16)

Lowri is currently working towards her PGCE with the intention of graduating as a PE Teacher to teach students at a post 16 age.

Lowri has been employed by The Paris Saint-Germain Academy UK since summer 2021, where she was a lead coach at a summer camp based at St. Martin’s School, Caerphilly. The camp was for a 2 week duration for players aged 8-16.

Lowri then began delivering a 36 week mentorship programme to students aged 13-16 alongside our Player Development Programme.

During the Easter and October Half term Lowri was a lead coach delivering a range of technical, tactical and skill based football sessions, using her experience to help guide and support other members of staff.

Alex

Course: Football Coaching, Development, and Administration

Alex has recently come back from the USA coaching with challenger Sports at summer camps around California, working with players between the age of 7-16 years old.

Delivering sessions at a secondary school in Pontypool allows Alex to not only gain more experience but also a different perspective into coaching styles, ideology, and methodology within Parisian football. This opened the option of coaching throughout the October Half Term Camp at one of our partner schools in Caerphilly. Working with not only a range of players but also alongside several highly qualified and experienced coaches improve his development.

Chloe

Course: Football Coaching, Development, and Administration

Chloe currently coaches an Under 14’s boys’ team in Bristol and coached in the Wildcat programme, delivering sessions to female players aged 5-12 years old.

Chloe has experience working in America at a Summer Soccer School and is keen to gain more experience, therefore accepted the role of football coach with The Paris Saint-Germain  Academy UK at a secondary school in Pontypool. She then delivered football throughout the October Half Term Camp showing great progression and development throughout. With support and guidance from other more experienced coaches she was able to adapt sessions to suit a range of ages and abilities.

We look forward to growing our partnership with The University and welcoming more of its students to work with us.
