A couple of weeks ago, our mentorship students had the incredible opportunity to visit Dragon Park, The Home of Welsh Football, for a special careers talk. The visit was an eye-opening experience, offering our mentorship students valuable insights into the diverse world of football, both on and off the pitch.
As part of the event, the students had the chance to listen to several members of the Football Association of Wales staff speak about their unique journeys into working in football. These inspiring stories highlighted how varied career paths in the industry can be, and showed that no two journeys are the same. Our learners gained an overview of grassroots football, the wide range of roles available within football, the coaching pathway, and the numerous opportunities available to them both locally and beyond.
In addition to the informative talks, the students were given a tour of the FAW’s fantastic facility. It was an inspiring experience that gave them a deeper understanding of the behind-the-scenes work that keeps football moving forward in Wales.
As they embark on their final year of school, this event provided the students with plenty of food for thought. Many of them are beginning to make decisions about their next steps, with several showing an interest in pursuing careers in sport. For those who may not follow that path, the event offered valuable insight into the importance of transferable skills—skills that can be applied across a wide range of industries and job areas.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the FAW staff who generously gave up their time to put this event together for our learners. Their passion and commitment to developing the next generation of football professionals did not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity.
Overall, it was a truly memorable day that left our students inspired and motivated as they begin to plan their next steps!
