Friday 11th September marked an exciting milestone for PSG Academy Ackworth, as the newly launched football programme officially got underway with a competitive friendly against fellow PSG Academy UK programme, PSG Academy West Midlands.
The fixture provided the perfect opportunity to mark the beginning of the PSG Academy Ackworth programme, with both teams featuring players from their new Year 12 cohorts. With a new season and new chapter beginning for both groups of students, the match offered valuable competitive experience and a chance to put their training into practice.
A Competitive Start for PSG Academy Ackworth
From the opening whistle, both teams looked to establish their rhythm and impose their style of play. There was plenty of attacking intent, with players showing confidence in possession and looking to create opportunities in the final third.
Despite the positive approach from both sides, the teams also demonstrated strong defensive organisation. Both back lines remained disciplined, making it difficult for either team to find a way through.
The result was a closely contested first half, with both teams continuing to battle for control without finding the breakthrough.

As the second half developed, PSG Academy Ackworth found another gear and eventually broke the deadlock.
The new Ackworth side went on to score two goals in the second half, securing an impressive victory in their first friendly fixture and giving the Year 12 players a fantastic start to their competitive journey.
The result provided a positive reward for the players’ efforts and showcased the potential within the new PSG Academy Ackworth cohort.
Developing Players Through the PSG Academy Methodology
The opening friendly was about more than the result. It provided the new Year 12 players at PSG Academy Ackworth with an opportunity to experience competitive football, put their training into practice and continue their development within the PSG Academy methodology.
As part of the wider PSG Academy UK network, players have the opportunity to train, develop and compete alongside other PSG Academy programmes across the country.
Fixtures such as this also provide valuable experiences away from regular training, helping players adapt to different opponents, match situations and styles of play as they progress through their football and education journey.
